Our release notes are designed to keep you updated on the continuous development of Squid Data Hub. In this edition, we highlight new features and improvements from the past months.
Release Notes from 10th August 2026
Electrical Load Balance (E-Balance) β‘
- The new E-Balance functionality calculates electrical loads for different operating scenarios, such as at port, at sea, or at full speed. Results show the total consumption per E-Balance category and the utilization of suppliers, distributors, and converters.
- Electrical systems can be created manually or generated automatically during device imports. They can be connected through the user interface using directional or bidirectional connections.
- E-Balance categories, load factors, and connections can be configured or overridden for individual scenarios using the bulk-edit interface.
- Most E-Balance data can also be managed through the REST API. Export to PDF and Excel is currently in development.
Detailed Engineering with Terminals, Wires, and Cores π
- Devices can now contain terminals, while cables can define individual wires or cores and connect them to terminals on their source and target devices.
- Device types and cable types can provide predefined terminal and core information, making it easier to add consistent data to devices and cables of the corresponding type.
- Wire and core information is also available through the cable endpoints of the REST API.
Import and Configure Engineering Data More Efficiently π₯
- The foundation for customer-specific data importers has been created, including the first implementation for a pilot customer.
- Bulk operations can now skip invalid entries and continue processing the remaining data instead of cancelling the entire import. A new REST endpoint also supports the bulk upload and update of cables.
- Attributes, features, and project-specific settings can now be configured through the user interface. Configurations can also be exported and imported.
- Feature groups can be enabled or disabled individually for each project, and default status transitions have been added for cables and cable assemblies.
Engineering Data and Integrations π
- Device details now show information inherited from the corresponding device type whenever no device-specific value has been stored. Additional device attributes can also be inherited from the device type.
- Engineering systems can now have an assigned owner and display the status progress of their cables, including cables contained in subordinate systems.
- A new cable proD plug-in retrieves cables from Squid Data Hub, imports them into a project, and synchronizes their lengths back to the data hub.
- New REST endpoints have been added for electrical systems.
Placements Across Engineering Tools π
- The previous
eplanReferencefield has been expanded into a placement model that records where devices and cables are used in EPLAN or other engineering tools. - Placements make it easier to track items across multiple external projects, identify where further information can be found, and validate whether devices or cables are still in use.
- Devices or cables without an active placement can optionally be deleted automatically. A new API endpoint also checks whether selected items still have a main function in an external project.
Usability and Workflow Improvements βοΈ
- A generic selection view provides a more comfortable way to select cables, cable assembly data, and other items.
- Filtered list views now show the number of displayed results compared with the total number of available items.
- Lists can now be sorted by the identifying attributes of referenced items instead of their internal database IDs.
- The detail pages for devices, systems, and locations have been improved, and AI-powered search has been updated.
- The new application styling is gradually being introduced across further areas of the user interface.
- Change history entries can now include an optional reason and show whether a change was made through the user interface, an import, or the REST API.
